Rangers fans rave about Nikola Katic as defender makes return for club’s second string on Wednesday
Brian Gilmour’s Rangers B-team booked their place in the last 16 of the Challenge Cup on Wednesday night, after a 3-2 win over Dumbarton. Nikola Katic continued his comeback from an ACL injury by playing 69 minutes. Rangers fans took to Twitter, delighted to see Katic in a Rangers shirt again.
Katic, 24, suffered the injury during pre-season before the start of the 2020-21 season. He has been forced to watch Rangers go unbeaten in the league and hold aloft the title, while undergoing rehab. But now, he is back on the pitch and offers Rangers another option at centre-back.
Just in time, too. Leon Balogun came in for criticism on Tuesday night during the Champions League defeat to Malmo – with Steven Gerrard opting to play him over Filip Helander. Katic lasted 69 minutes as Gilmour’s men earned a 3-2 win – cruising for large parts of the game.

What are Rangers fans saying about Katic after Wednesday run out?
Indeed, Rangers were 3-0 up on 76 minutes, Katic keeping a clean sheet while on the pitch. Jake Hastie, Alex Lowry and Tony Weston all getting goals. But Dumbarton looked to stage an almighty comeback with two late efforts themselves. Rangers won, though, and are now in the last 16.
But more importantly for Katic, it was more minutes under his belt and a big step closer to returning to action. Rangers fans watching on were impressed with their £2million () signing.
