Rangers fans on Twitter absolutely loving Tavernier’s strike

Rangers fans loved James Tavernier’s winner on Saturday.

The impressive Rangers’ skipper scored a wonderful goal, striking from outside the area to find the top corner.

The goal proved to be the winner away at St. Johnstone as the Gers returned to the top of the league.

It’s not the first time that the fans have watched on as Tavernier has bailed them out.

Despite being a right-back, Tavernier is one of the best attacking players in the Scottish Premiership.

That strike at McDiarmid Park may have been Tavernier’s first in the league this season, but it’s his fourth goal involvement in four games.

On top of that goal he’s chimed in with three assists.

That puts the skipper well on his way to bettering the 12 goals 11 assists he contributed across both phases of last season in the Premiership ().

Next up for Tavernier and co is a tantalising encounter against Lyon in the Europa League group stages.

It won’t be easy for Rangers to get a similar result against Lyon as they got on the weekend, but it’s doable.

Last season in Europe the Gers managed to overcome the likes of Benfica in the group stages and Royal Antwerp in he knockouts.

If they’re to do similar against Lyon this time around then Tavernier will have to be at the very top of his game.

His ability to get forward and contribute in attack is a massive boost.

His goal scoring and assisting attributes translate to Europe too, as he bagged five goals and four assists playing continental football last season ().

Before that game vs Lyon, though, the fans have the chance to look back on Tavernier’s weekend winner, something they’ve loved doing.
