Rangers fans hail Worrall after his first goal for the club secures cup draw at Aberdeen

The Scottish Cup represents Rangers’ most likely source of silverware in Steven Gerrard’s first season in charge of the club, even after Brendan Rodgers’ shock departure from league leaders Celtic.

And the Gers remain in the hunt for that trophy after a 1-1 draw against Aberdeen at Pittodrie yesterday earned them a replay.

Sam Cosgrove put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot after just eleven minutes but Joe Worrall levelled the scores four minutes after the interval with his first goal for the club to keep the Gers in the hat.

That’s an important goal for Rangers of course, but also for Worrall individually. He has endured some criticism since his loan move from Nottingham Forest and has needed to show his worth in recent weeks.

After a blunder against Kilmarnock earlier this year went a long way to costing Rangers all three points, Worrall had a lot to prove to a fanbase that couldn’t quite understand why Steven Gerrard was persisting with him – given that he looked short of the required level and was only a loanee.

But Worrall is now showing the benefits and his goal topped off another assured performance that showed why he was such hot property in England last season before his form tailed away.

The Gers supporters are definitely warming to him as Worrall continues to change many minds within the fanbase…
