Rangers fans excited by injury update on midfielder Scott Arfield

Steven Gerrard confirmed on Friday that Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield returned to training with the squad – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter were left buzzing with the update.

Arfield, 32, has been sidelined since December with an ankle problem.

But the £16,000-a-week () is close to making his comeback, with this Saturday’s league match at home to Kilmarnock a possible fixture he could return in.

Gerrard revealed () on Friday that Arfield has been in training with the Gers group and that a decision will be made on whether he’s available to play this weekend.

The central midfielder was an ever-present in the team this season before his injury setback, scoring seven goals and supplying five assists in 31 appearances.

A selection of Rangers supporters on social media are overjoyed with Arfield’s imminent return, with one suggesting he can help get them over the line in their pursuit of the title.

He is an all-action central midfielder that provides a goal threat with his late runs to to the box, as well a give the team so much effort off the ball defensively with an incredible work-rate.

The Canada international has watched from the stands his team open up an 18-point advantage over second-placed Celtic in the league table, making them overwhelming favourite to win the league crown.
