Rangers fans cannot believe Eros Grezda’s Challenge Cup heroics

Rangers’ youngsters are through to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Challenge Cup after defeating Solihull Moors on penalties.

It looked as though the game was getting away from the Colts, with the English non-league side 3-1 up after Callum Howe, Abdi Yussuf and Darren Carter had scored and Jamie Barjonas had previously equalised.

However, first-team outcast Eros Grezda did not give up on the tie. The Albanian international scored two goals to take the game to a penalty shootout. He then scored in the shootout and, after Lewis Budinauckas had saved the first effort from Solihull, Rangers’ young guns booked themselves a place in the quarter-finals, where they will face Wrexham.

Of course, for Grezda, it is a reminder of what might have been in the Rangers first-team.

Steven Gerrard was a big fan of the player, who was signed from Osijek last summer. However, his stock plummeted last season and it has since been a poor run from the player.

Grezda was alleged to have spat at a Ballymena player in a Challenge Cup match, an incident that left Ibrox boss Gerrard incensed.

The club desperately tried to sell Grezda however, despite reported interest from Qatar, no exit was found for the player.

So Rangers fans certainly had some fun with his heroics tonight, with some suggesting he is brought into first-team duties ahead of Ryan Kent or Sheyi Ojo.

Of course, the tongue was firmly in cheek for such comments. But after Borna Barisic managed to turn things around under Gerrard, perhaps Grezda can do the same and maybe conjure up a future at Ibrox after all.
