Rangers fans applaud midfielder Steven Davis after win against Celtic

Rangers recorded a crucial 1-0 victory at home to Celtic on Saturday afternoon – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter picked out midfielder Steven Davis for his performance.

The Gers were on the back foot for large spells of the first-half, but they managed to stand firm and goalkeeper Allan McGregor was excellent with a couple of top-class saves.

The Old Firm clash turned on a moment in the 62nd minute, as Celtic defender Nir Bitton was shown a straight red card for a foul on Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers imposed themselves on the game from then onwards and the winning goal was a Callum McGregor own goal, as he deflected the ball in from a James Tavernier corner.

They are now 19 points ahead of Celtic in the table after a statement win, albeit the latter do have three games in hand.

A selection of Rangers supporters on social media believe that Davis was outstanding in the centre of the park at home to Celtic, as he showed his experience and combative approach to help battle against a tough opponent.

The 36-year-old central midfielder may be one of the most senior figures in the dressing room, but he was full of running throughout the 90 minutes and broke up the play crucially on occasions.

Here are some Rangers fans discussing Davis:
