Rangers duo and Oli McBurnie send Instagram messages to Chelsea star Billy Gilmour

Billy Gilmour made his second senior appearance for Chelsea and was handed his first start by Frank Lampard as the Blues posted a big 7-1 win over Grimsby Town on Wednesday night – prompting reaction from Rangers players and Oli McBurnie.

Gilmour, 18 left Rangers in the summer of 2017 to join Chelsea and he has starred in west London since. Indeed, the Scotland Under-21 international is considered as one of the best up-and-coming talents in Chelsea’s academy.

Last season, Gilmour played 32 times for Chelsea’s Under-23 and Under-19 sides – the latter in the UEFA Youth League – and had a hand in 15 goals, scoring nine himself and laying on six assists from midfield.

It has impressed Frank Lampard, who gave Gilmour his debut as a substitute against Sheffield United in the Premier League before watching him shine for 90 minutes against Grimsby. Gilmour posted on Instagram after the 7-1 trouncing.

Gilmour was joined by Reece James who starred on his first start with a goal and two assists. Centre-back Marc Guehi also made his debut at centre-back, as Michy Batshuayi scored a brace for Lampard’s side.

As well as James and Batshuayi, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ross Barkley, Kurt Zouma and Pedro all found the back of the net in a convincing win for Chelsea. Rangers stars Jordan Jones and Josh McPake reacted, as did Gers fan Oli McBurnie.
