Rangers duo and Jamie Carragher react on Instagram as Jon Flanagan joins new club

Jon Flanagan signed for Belgian outfit Charleroi yesterday and following his Instagram post he received messages of support from Rangers duo Ryan Jack and Nikola Katic and ex-Liverpool star Jamie Carragher.

The 27-year-old left Rangers in the summer and has been without a club since departing Ibrox after two years.

Flanagan is capable of operating in either full-back position and was once regarded as a bright young talent during his time at Liverpool.

He was part of the Reds team that very nearly won the Premier League under Brendan Rodgers back during the 2013/14 campaign.

Following his arrival in Belgium yesterday, Flanagan took to Instagram and received some comments from his former teammates.

Flanagan played 51 times for Liverpool and 39 times for Rangers during his time at the two clubs.

He hasn’t quite lived up to his potential during a career that initially offered plenty of promise.

Flanagan has also spent time on loan at Bolton and Burnley and will now look to find his way in Belgium.

He couldn’t really be joining Charleroi at a better time. The Belgians are currently sat top of the league with 22 points from their 10 games.

Although the league is currently closely contested, Flanagan will join a club where confidence is sky-high.

On his day he has shown that he is a capable performer. The challenge now is to try and get back in some form and play regular first-team football.

If he does that, who knows where his career could still go.
