Rangers could reportedly sell player that once impressed Chris Sutton

Chris Sutton once heaped plenty of praise on Rangers star Ross McCrorie as the young Gers star broke into the senior side under the likes of Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty – but now the versatile ace could be reportedly sold this summer.

McCrorie, 22, was handed his debut by Caixinha as one of a string of young players to be trusted by the Portuguese gaffer – alongside the likes of David Bates and Myles Beerman. He has since impressed, clocking up 55 Rangers appearances in total.

It looked as though McCrorie was going to be an important member of Gerrard’s squad, too. Last season, he played 31 times and started 16 of those matches. But in the summer, he was loaned to Portsmouth, where he has become a favourite.

Being used as a right-back, a holding midfielder and a centre-back, McCrorie has impressed despite a number of injuries claiming Pompey want him permanently.

It could see Rangers lose a player that even Celtic icon Sutton once praised, applauding the youngster’s display in a 2017 Scottish League Cup win over Partick Thistle in his ahead of an Old Firm clash.

“I was impressed with the young lad Ross McCrorie when he came on against Partick Thistle in midweek and it will be interesting to see if Pedro plays him after his praise of the youngster,” Sutton said about McCrorie.

TBR’s view – Surely Rangers would be making a mistake?

McCrorie is Rangers through and through. Coming up through the academy, McCrorie not only offers plenty of quality at the base of the midfield – but he is also able to shine at centre-back and at right-back.

It must also be considered that the 15-time Scotland Under-21 international is still only 22 years of age. He is showing enormous potential to go on and become a star, and Steven Gerrard would be making a mistake in selling him.
