Rangers boss offers injury update on Joe Aribo and Kemar Roofe

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told the media during his pre-match that Kemar Roofe and Joe Aribo are nearing a return to action.

The manager takes his team to Celtic for the Old Firm-derby tomorrow, with neither of the Glaswegian giants yet to taste defeat this season.

Although a positive outlook on Roofe and Aribo has been confirmed by Gerrard, he doesn’t think either will be quite fit enough to face the Hoops this weekend.

That does represent a blow for Rangers, although they have been firing on all cylinders without them during 2020/21.

Roofe arrived from Anderlecht in the summer for an undisclosed fee and has scored twice in six outings for the Gers.

Aribo, 24, has played three times this season but hasn’t featured since August after picking up a troublesome ankle injury.

The ex-Charlton man caught the eye last season, scoring nine goals and registering eight assists for the Light Blues.

Due to the shortened campaign during 2019/20, Rangers only met their fierce rivals twice.

Gerrard oversaw a 2-1 victory at Celtic Park, although his team were beaten 2-0 at Ibrox earlier during the 2019/20 campaign.

Tomorrow looks like being the biggest derby-day contest in many years, with both clubs putting their unbeaten records on the line.

The challenge for Rangers this season is to stop Celtic lifting their tenth Scottish Premiership title in succession.

Gerrard is now in his third season in charge of the Gers and will be desperate to lift some silverware.

Winning tomorrow would send his team four points clear of the Hoops, although Neil Lennon’s men do still have a game in hand.

Rangers fans should be delighted that Roofe and Aribo are on the way back and they’ll hope their team can claim three points without them tomorrow.
