Radrizzani has hinted Leeds could pursue striker that Ferdinand wanted rivals to sign
Andrea Radrizzani hinted earlier this week that Leeds United could pursue a deal to sign free agent Edinson Cavani this summer following the club’s promotion – but Rio Ferdinand urged Leeds’ rivals to sign him in January.
Cavani, 33, is a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain after his contract expired. The 116-time Uruguay international spent seven years with the French champions – scoring 200 goals in 301 league and cup outings.
The powerful forward has been linked with a return to South America, the MLS, the Qatari Stars League or even the Chinese Super League. Clubs in Italy are also keen, with Inter Milan strongly linked with the veteran.
Radrizzani claimed, though, that Leeds could offer Cavani a chance to shine in England – “We’ve certainly thought about him and we’ll see, given he’s still available on a free transfer.”
It is certainly a big-name player and one that would shock the footballing world, if Cavani ended up in Yorkshire. So big, that Ferdinand wanted Leeds’ rivals Manchester United to sign him in January, via a Tweet.
Just thinking…. I would 100% go & get (Edinson Cavani).
Huge experience, Goalscorer, Work Ethic & Great Pro who the younger players in the squad would learn a lot from! Thoughts?!

TBR’s view – Cavani would be a stunning signing, but…
Ferdinand’s comments are bang on. Enormous experience at the very highest level for two European giants in PSG and Napoli, Cavani’s know how would prove crucial for Leeds if he did sign in the coming months.
His goals, power and work ethic would be excellent additions to a talented Leeds side that lack in Premier League experience – only Pablo Hernandez, Adam Forshaw, Patrick Bamford and Helder Costa have played in the division.
But would Cavani, at 33 years of age and being more of a target man than an athlete, cope with Bielsa’s murderball training sessions, high press and constant intensity? Probably not. He would be a coup, though.
It must also be considered whether Cavani still has enough in his locker to play in the Premier League. Last season, he managed just seven goals in 22 outings.
