‘Quality’: Leeds United coach seriously impressed by player who’s yet to make his debut under Jesse Marsch

Leeds United U21’s boss Michael Skubala is seriously impressed by goalkeeper Joel Robles – who’s yet to make his debut under Jesse Marsch.

Robles joined the Whites over the summer on a free transfer after leaving Real Betis at the end of his contract.

The 32-year-old is seen as an experienced back-up option to Illan Meslier and is yet to taste first-team action at Elland Road.

But the Spaniard did get some valuable minutes under his belt last night for the Leeds U21 side in the Papa John’s EFL Trophy. And Robles has made an impression on Skubala after asking to take part in the game.

Skubala seriously impressed by Robles

, the Leeds U21 boss admitted he was seriously impressed by Roble’s display against Bolton.

“It’s a bit of experience, Joel wanted to play a game and we can drop older players into the Papa John’s,” he said.

“I thought it was a really good blend with the two inexperienced players in Morten Spencer and James (Debayo), who’s 17, to have an experienced goalkeeper.

“I thought he made some big saves, his experience, his quality, his calmness at times, he’s a really experienced keeper. I thought he did well.”

The Leeds youth side suffered a 3-0 defeat and it was their first loss of the season. But it seems that Skubala was impressed by Robles’ display, who will be hoping to get his chance under Marsch soon.

The experienced Spanish shot stopper will only benefit from playing minutes as he could be called into action at any time for the first-team.

Marsch will be delighted to see Robles offering to play for the U21’s side too as it shows he’s committed to staying sharp while he waits for his opportunity in the first-team.
