‘Purely business’: Leicester boss Rodgers takes aim at European Super League plans
Brendan Rodgers has become ไthe latest big name to condemn plans for a European Super League.
Despite sitting third in the Premier League, Leicester City are not among the💯 six English clubs to have c𓃲onfirmed their involvement in the breakaway league.
The full list as it stands is Arsenal , Atlético, Barcelona, Chelsea, Internazionale, Juventus, Liverpoolꦫ, Manchester City, Manchester United, Milanܫ, Real Madrid and Tottenham
Leicester are currently two places above Cꦅhelsea, three above Liverpool, four above Tottenham and six above Arsenal.
The plans have received widespre🐬ad condemnation from fans, players, ex-players and pundits alike.
Rodgers has added his voice, claiming that the move is indicative of a m♔ove from sport to business.
As quoted by , he said: “There has been a line drawn in the sand with all of this. It has moved across from what looks very ♑much like a purely business proposal.
“All the merits of t♏eams and rewards in sport, it looks like from the outside that isn’t really tak🎃en into the ideas going forward.
“We understand now, as much as any time, football is moving from sport to business but we must never lose the fact it is a sport and is a game for supporters and players. That always has to be at the forefront of any decision꧅.
“We see the evolution of🎀 the game, teams who progress an💟d develop and that’s the beauty of this league. The six teams who are there can never forget the brand of the Premier League is based around all the teams.
“The roots of their success are based around the other teams bec♛ause of the com൩petition, the bottom team can beat the top team.”
UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin spoke out against the plans at the 45th Ordinary UEFA Congress on Tuesday, and hailed Rodgers’ former club Celtic as an 𝐆example of the kind of club that European football 𝕴needs.
