Don Hutchison has claimed that Joao Felix is wasting his talent at Atletico Madrid and that a move to Liverpool or Manchester City would make him one of the best players in the world.

Felix was once one of the most exciting talents in world football. He burst onto the scene at Benfica as a teenager and scored 20 goals and provided 11 assists in just 33 starts for the Portuguese giants.

The whole world stood up to take notice of the young Portuguese wonderkid and Atletico Madrid won the race for him. Diego Simeone’s side forked out an eye-watering for Felix, which made him the fifth-most expensive signing in history back in July 2019.

Sadly, things haven’t gone well for Felix and it looks like he could leave Atleti soon.

Don Hutchison: Joao Felix would thrive under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Felix, after two-and-a-half years at Atletico Madrid, has the exact same number of goals and assists as he did at Benfica. But, he has played over twice as many games under Simeone, which makes his record a very poor one, especially when you consider how much he cost.

Hutchison, who has seen a fair bit of Felix over the years, is convinced that the problem isn’t the player, it’s his boss. He believes that if the 22-year-old leaves Simeone for a manager like Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola, he will become one of the best players in the world in a year or two.

He tweeted: “In my opinion with a proper manager/coach Joao Felix in a year or two could be one of the best in the world. His talent is wasted under Simeone. Horrible petty diving argumentative team to watch Pep and Klopp would have him purring IMO.”

Should Liverpool sign Felix?

If Atletico Madrid are really willing to sell Felix in January or in the summer, he will not be short of offers. Liverpool already have a fearsome attack, but it won’t be a surprise to see them in the race as well.

Roberto Firmino is 30 already, while Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are 29. None of them are getting any younger and in a player like Felix, Klopp could find his ideal replacement for the Brazilian.

Yes, Liverpool already have Diogo Jota. The Portuguese international is incredible, but having his compatriot alongside him in attack would not be a bad thing at all.

It will be interesting to see where Felix will end up if he does leave Madrid in one of the next two transfer windows.
