‘We didn’t get anything’: Pundit slams Leeds defender Junior Firpo against Leicester

Leeds lost once again last night as Leicester City put them to the sword through and own goal and a Harvey Barnes finish.

Jesse Marsch’s side are now right in the relegation mix and don’t seem to be able to buy a win. Once again, defensive lapses cost them and they still very much look a side making the same mistakes that were costing them under Marcelo Bielsa.

Of course, it’s a different group of players. Marsch has been given funds to sign a number of new players. And one of the newer faces at Elland Road who is struggling to impress is left-back, Junior Firpo. , Firpo hasn’t exactly shone in a Leeds shirt.

And commenting on the game last night, pundit and former Leeds man, Simon Walton, slammed the Brazilian for his defensive work.

“I think sometimes the counter-argument to that is, ‘yeah, but he’s good going forward’. But there was no attacking threat either,” .

“As a full-back, if you’re not particularly good defensively, you have to provide something going forward. And unfortunately tonight, we didn’t get either. We didn’t get anything at either end from him.”

Firpo was brought in by Leeds ahead of a cluster of clubs who were watching him at the time. However, it’s now looking a poorly judged decision, given Firpo’s overall form.

TBR’s View: Firpo Not Up To Scratch At Leeds

Junior Firpo obviously has some talent in the locker but he’s never once looked like a solid defender ever since he arrived in England.

Clearly, he can get forward and is a good athlete. But there is so much more to being good enough at this level and at the moment, Firpo doesn’t show it.

Walton is right in his comments here and Jesse Marsch has some big decisions to make in the coming weeks.
