One pundit has now spoken very highly about a transfer deal Arsenal are about to pull off.

Mikel Arteta has often been backed well in the market since replacing Unai Emery in December 2019 – the Spaniard has spent £50m to sign Ben White, £65m on Kai Havertz and £105m on Declan Rice, to name just a few examples.

The popular pundit has now praised Arsenal for the signing of Riccardo Calafiori – which is set to be announced shortly.

Arsenal have agreed a £42m deal with Bologna for the Italy international – who was one of the best performers at UEFA Euro 2024 this summer – with a medical set to take place soon.

Speaking to talkSPORT about the deal, Cascarino : “He has got it all, he has got it all. Honestly. He’s really composed, but he has got a bit of (Sergio) Ramos in him as well, but not as bad as Ramos, who was quite a bit forceful in the way he defended, would foul a bit. He has got a bit of that.

“He gets on the ball, he can find passes really easy, You can play him in a three, you can play him in a two, he’s really versatile, and I think it’s a great addition for Arsenal.”

Calafiori is a particularly effective attacking defender, scoring two goals and providing five assists in 30 Serie A appearances last season as Bologna qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

Where Mikel Arteta plans to use Riccardo Calafiori

Arteta’s plans for Calafiori have already been revealed.

The believe the Spaniard plans to use the Italian in an inverted full-back role from the left, which is likely to see the 22-year-old pick up the ball in central midfield areas, as Arsenal fans have seen Oleksandr Zinchenko do in recent seasons.

With Ben White marauding forward down the right flank, it means Arsenal will effectively have four towering central defenders packing out the backline, making the Gunners a physical match for any side, as well as a footballing match given the quartet’s ability in possession as well.
