Pundit says he doesn’t like ‘very overrated’ £45m Liverpool player at all
Jay Bothroyd has claimed that he is really not a fan of one Liverpool player, and insisted that he is very overrated ahead of Euro 2024.
Liverpo𒅌ol, of course, went into the second-half of the season with a genuine chance of winning the quadruple, before ultimately falling short on three fronts.
It was perhaps a sign of how Liverpooܫl remain a work in progress fꦉor now, but there seems to be so much potential within the ranks as Arne Slot prepares to get to work from next season.
One player who did end this past campaign in good form was Cody Gakpo. Gakpo has come in for criticism during his time onꦗ Merseyside, with the 25-year-old scoring 23 goal❀s in 🐻79 appearances in all competitions.
Pundit says Liverpool player is really overrated
But Gakpo did app꧒ear to turn a corner later on in the campaign, and he will now be hoping to shine at Euro 2024 with the Netherl❀ands.
However, ahead of the tournament, Jay Bothroyd told that he is still not convinced by the forward, even with his abi♍lity to play in a number of roles across the forward line.

“I don’t l🔥ike Gakpo at all, I think Gakpo’s very overrated, I don’t think he’s done anywhere near enough for Liverpool. I think he’s one of those players that you don’t actually know what position he is, to the point where Klopp, left-wing, right-wing, in the hole, number nine, and he doesn’t really perform anywhere really well on a consistent basis,” he said.
“Being versatile𓆏, what does that mean? If you’re average but you’re versatile in these positions, why is that any good? I’d prefer you to be a master of one than a jack of all trades.”
This summer could be a turning point for Cody Gakpo
It is potentially lazy to say, but Gakpo will hopefully thrive working with Slot. Slot is apparently f🐠airly different to the traditional Dutch coaches, but you would imagine that he will have a better knowledge of the forward than most of the rest෴ of the Liverpool squad.
Bothroyd is correct in a sense that Gakpo is yet to really stam﷽♛p his authority on one position in the side, and he probably does not get into many Liverpool fans’ first-choice lineup. But it is impossible to say he is overrated when it does not feel as though he has had a raft of plaudits in the first place.
The best is yet to come from the attacker, and if Slot is the man to unlock that potential, then Liverpool could 🀅have a really special player in their ranks.
