Pundit says he couldn’t believe Manchester City player’s display vs Palace

Ian Holloway has admitted that one Manchester City player is his new favourite, insisting that he could not believe the performance that he produced against Crystal Palace.

City’s clash against the Eagles looked set to end in a fairly straightforward win. Pep Guardiola‘s side were 2-0 up with 14 minutes remaining at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Roy Hodgson’s men had other ideas, going on to score twice and put a dent in the champions’ title charge.

Ian Holloway amazed by Rico Lewis after Manchester City draw

One of Manchester City’s goalscorers in the game was Rico Lewis. The 19-year-old started in holding midfield alongside Rodri.

And speaking on , Ian Holloway suggested that he was absolutely blown away by the teenager’s display against Palace.

“I have a new favourite, I saw him play last week in a position that I didn’t think for one minute he could do, Rico Lewis,” he said.

“I had him in my mind seeing him up and down on the left, got in the England team on the left, left-back, attacking left-back. I didn’t know he had the maturity to step inside and look as good in that sitting midfield role. He wasn’t sitting really. To be honest, he did both sides of it, like we used to have to years ago.

“I cannot believe what I actually saw. And they only drew but I thought he was absolutely brilliant.

“I have to big up that young lad. I know it’s not an underdog, but that kid for his age, wow. We better watch him, he is something else.”

Teenager already has a key role in Pep Guardiola’s plans

Lewis is not exactly a stranger to playing in the middle of the park. Most notably this season, Guardiola picked the academy graduate in that sort of position for their trip to Arsenal back in October.

Lewis completed 90 minutes for the first time in the Premier League this season in the draw with Palace, coming off in the 95th minute.

And as shown by , he completed more key passes than any other player on the pitch. In fact, his tally of four was twice as many as anyone else.

Obviously, it is a huge task for any young player to get into the Manchester City team. But Lewis has made the match day squad for every single league game so far this season.

Meanwhile, he has been a stalwart of the side in the Champions League.

Certainly, Holloway is confident that Lewis has such a bright future ahead after watching his latest display in the top-flight.
