TalkSport pundit Alan Brazil has urged Newcastle United to appoint Steven Gerrard as the new manager – even though the 41-year-old is at a ‘bigger’ club in Rangers.

Everybody is expecting the new Magpies owners to get rid of Steve Bruce. The Newcastle boss is probably expecting the same, but he will remain in charge until a new manager is found.

A ton of big names have been linked with the Newcastle job already. The likes of Antonio Conte, Zinedine Zidane and Brendan Rodgers are all reportedly on the list, but Gerrard seems a more realistic option at this stage.

Brazil believes that the Liverpool legend would be a phenomenal choice for the Magpies. He has boldly claimed that Rangers are a bigger club than Newcastle, but he feels that Gerrard should still take the job at St James’ Park.

Newcastle would be a great stepping stone for Gerrard

Speaking about Newcastle’s managerial situation, Brazil said on : “I think Steven Gerrard.

“No, I am not (responds to Ray Parlour who said Brazil’s trying to get him out of Rangers). From Steven’s point of view, forget Celtic-Rangers situation. I think for Steven to take a big club and I mean a big, big club.

“Rangers are a big club worldwide and probably bigger than Newcastle worldwide. But Newcastle, in its own right, success, is massive. To manage in the Premier League, against the big boys, would be a great stepping stone for Steven Gerrard.”

Steven Gerrard’s dream would be to return to the Premier League and take charge of Liverpool one day. However, to get a job of that magnitude, he needs some Premier League experience under his belt.

The 41-year-old has done a phenomenal job at Rangers since he took charge of them. He even helped them win the league last season, which just shows that he has what it takes to be successful in a difficult job.

Newcastle fans would ideally want a proven, world-class manager to come in and lead the club to glory. However, Gerrard wouldn’t be a bad option by any means, and if he’s available, they should really consider him if and when they show Bruce the door.
