Pundit says 24-year-old Arsenal player doesn’t do anything in role Arteta has given him

Robbie Mustoe has admitted that Kai Havertz just does not appear to be effective after Arsenal suffered another defeat at the weekend to miss the chance to go back to the top of the Premier League table.

Mikel Arteta’s side are on a pretty miserable run right now. The Gunners have won just one of their last six games in all competitions. And they now find themselves fourth in the table, five points behind Liverpool.

There is definitely an argument to say that Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Fulham was Arsenal’s worst performance of the campaign. And given that they also lost to West Ham a few days earlier, questions will be being asked of a number of players.

Kai Havertz not doing enough for Arsenal

Kai Havertz is one player who actually ended the year with some good performances, scoring three times in his final seven Premier League games of 2023. However, he was still extremely poor at Craven Cottage.

The 24-year-old failed to have a single shot on goal or win a tackle, according to . And speaking on , Robbie Mustoe suggested that Havertz is not doing enough to justify his place in the team.

“They still look so flat, there was no cutting edge to their attacking play,” he said.

“The struggles of Martinelli continue, the struggles of Kai Havertz continue and this is what it is, he’s not effective, doesn’t do anything in there.

“We said that potentially by making those runs around Jesus to start on the bench by the way that it might be a way for him to add goals and to be effective and this was one that wasn’t.”

Summer signing may be hurting Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus

What was so impressive about Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus last season was the way the pair would seamlessly switch positions, with Martinelli often making runs into the striker position to finish off chances.

Havertz is now attempting to make many of the same runs after taking the position Granit Xhaka had last year. And that is potentially having an impact on both Jesus and Martinelli.

The Brazilian has definitely not been anywhere near as influential. And Jesus has only scored a handful of goals.

Obviously, Havertz is not the only one to blame for that. But things are definitely not clicking in that area of the field this season.
