Pundit reckons Tottenham’s players now view £17m man as a weak link

Tottenham were beaten again at the weekend, and fingers are again being pointed at certain Spurs players.

Indeed, after another bad result, an inquest has started at Tottenham, and Guglielmo Vicario has been at the centre of a storm of criticism.

The Italian was, once again, exposed from a set-piece, and according to Shay Given speaking on , Vicario’s own teammates seem to view him as a weak link at the moment.

Given shared his verdict on Vicario and how he’s viewed at Spurs.

“Teams look at it now and they seem to recognise there’s a weakness with Vicario with high balls into the box,” Given said.

“I think he has his own players now seeing it as a weakness, you have Maddison and another Tottenham player bringing them inside, he’s fighting his own players and the opposition players to get to the ball. He’s worried about the fight and forgetting about the ball.”

Vicario is a problem for Tottenham

Given isn’t wrong, Vicario is proving to be a real problem for Tottenham.

The man is a very good shot-stopper, and he’s also solid with his feet, but he’s so weak from set-pieces, and in the Premier League that issue will be exploited time and time again.

As Given says, Vicario’s teammates are now trying to cover for the goalkeeper’s shortcomings, but that is only causing more issues as Tottenham’s defensive set-piece structure seems to be all over the place.

Tottenham have had a poor start to this season, and if they don’t buck up their ideas in terms of defending set plays, they will continue to struggle.

Vicario’s place could be under threat at Tottenham before too long if this trend continues, because it’s continuously causing Spurs problems and costing the team valuable points.
