Pundit now thinks Tottenham have made an ‘outstanding’ signing who ‘goes straight into the starting XI’

Darren Ambrose has now said he thinks Tottenham have pulled off an “outstanding” transfer.

Spurs have been busy in the market this summer, spending £30m to sign Archie Gray from Leeds, while also welcoming Lucas Bergvall to N17 after an £8.5m deal was agreed with Djurgarden in January.

Now, Darren Ambrose has praised Tottenham for one “outstanding” piece of recruitment…

The 40-year-old has now heaped praise on Spurs for the signing of Gray.

Tottenham moved quickly to take advantage of financial issues at Elland Road to secure the 18-year-old’s signature on a contract running until 2030, after Leeds failed to win an immediate return to the Premier League last season.

Speaking about the £30m deal on talkSPORT earlier on Sunday (4:12pm), Ambrose : “Outstanding signing. Absolutely outstanding. 18, I think he is now, still really, really young. Outstanding talent. He goes straight into the starting XI for me at Spurs.”

That is quite the claim to make about a teenager with no Premier League experience under his belt, although Gray is no normal teenage footballer.

The Durham-born wonderkid has already racked up 52 appearances for Leeds, and impressed so strongly in the youth ranks that his immense potential drew comparisons to that of a young Sergio Aguero.

Where 18-year-old could play under Ange Postecoglou

Gray made a name for himself at Leeds while mainly playing as a right-back, although he can also operate in central midfield.

Gray even played as a central defender in the recent 5-1 friendly win over Hearts.

However – according to – Tottenham view Gray as a central midfielder, and that is mainly where Ange Postecoglou is expected to use his new teenage talent.

That means Gray is likely to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the Australian’s squad, with the Denmark international now close to joining Marseille in a £20m deal.

It also means the Leeds academy graduate can step in and cover for Pedro Porro on the right of defence, now that Emerson Royal is nearing a move to AC Milan.

Hopefully, Gray avoids any major injuries at Tottenham and can fulfil his immense potential, as Spurs look to have signed a real diamond.
