Prutton refuses to blame ‘bottle’ for Leeds failure to press on over Easter weekend
David Prutton has said that Leeds’ failure to press on during the Easter period is not due to a lack of bottle,
The Whites of course went down to Wigan and Brentford, meaning that they lost ground to Sheffield United and look set for a place in the play-offs.
But Prutton says it’s not down to bottle, despite some critics pinpointing exactly that. He : “I wouldn’t question the bottle of the players. What we have seen from the players is they have been consistently better over a longer period of time, which comes down to good coaching but also the desire of the players.
“I don’t think it’s a question of bottle. In the Wigan game Leeds were battering on the door for 80-odd minutes but Wigan were just more clinical on the day.”

Prutton is probably right. It’s easy to pinpoint Leeds’ bottle because they have slipped away in the past but this is largely a different group and the manager has a different mentality.
If they’d taken their chances in those Easter losses, they’d have stayed on track for promotion. They played their football, but now need to dust themselves off and go again.
They have more than enough quality to come through the play-offs and if they keep their bottle, they can get up, just as Fulham did after final day disappointment last season.
