‘Proud’… Son Heung-min and James Maddison rally behind Tottenham teammate

Tottenham Hotspur may have got their pre-season under way, but there are still a number of Spurs players who aren’t set to be back for a few weeks.

With so many Tottenham players having been in action at either Euro 2024 or the Copa America, those will now be starting their holidays.

Indeed, there are still two Spurs players who are on international duty, namely Argentina duo Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso.

They will be hoping to feature for the Albiceleste in the Copa America final against Colombia on Sunday night.

As for the Euros, there are no more Tottenham players left in the tournament. The last Spurs player at the competition bowed out on Wednesday night.

The player in question is Micky van de Ven, who represented the Netherlands at Euro 2024 and featured in four games.

Van de Ven came off the bench against Poland, Austria, Romania and Turkiye, but remained an unused substitute against France and England.

After the Netherlands lost to the Three Lions, the Tottenham man took to Instagram on Thursday to praise his nation, Oranje teammates and fans.

“An unforgettable trip with a fantastic group,” he wrote. “It was an honour to represent our country in this tournament.

“Thanks to all the fans, amazing how you supported us everywhere!”

Plenty of fans and peers rallied behind Van de Ven, including Tottenham teammates Son Heung-min and James Maddison.

Son wrote: “Mattttiiieee very proud of you get some rest and see you very soon love ya.”

Meanwhile, Maddison wrote: “Proud of u son. Don’t have too many beers on holiday!”

Although Van de Ven’s Euro 2024 campaign ended at the semi-final stage, he should be proud of how he and his nation fared.

At just 23 years of age, he’s nowhere near his prime as a defender, so it’ll be interesting to see how he fares for club and country in the coming years.
