‘Promising’… Pundit says Celtic have a player who is much better than Nat Phillips at defending
Celtic’s defensive worries looked like it was about to raise its ugly head again this week as Cameron Carter-Vickers was taken off at half-time against Hibs at the weekend.
But as Brendan Rodgers confirmed today that the American defender was okay, Falkirk captain and radio pundit, Stephen McGinn, believes that Celtic have a better defender than stand-in player, Nat Phillips.
Selected to play against Kilmarnock today, Phillips really struggled but McGinn said there is someone better at Celtic that Brendan Rodgers should look to play more.
McGinn said [], “Nawrocki, he was a big money signing and I thought he looked quite promising the bits I’ve seen.
“I’m obviously not privy to training sessions and behind-closed-doors games and stuff like that.
“So you trust the manager and he will always pick his best team, but I just think there was more to work with Nawrocki than with [Nat] Phillips.”
Nawrocki was the player that Rodgers decided to bring in to replace Carl Starfelt after the big Swede left to join Celtic Vigo in the summer.

Spending £4.5m on the Polish defender, Rodgers clearly must have thought that there is a player in there somewhere but the Celtic manager has already said he doesn’t see enough in training to justify selecting the 22-year-old Poland u21 international.
Phillips is expected to return to Liverpool at the end of December so it is possible that the Celtic fans could see Nawrocki in the green and white Hoops soon enough.
Until then, Nawrocki will just need to bide his time and hope that he can impress Rodgers enough behind the scenes to convince the Celtic manager that he deserves to start ahead of the impressive Liam Scales sometime in the future.
