‘Problems’: Fabrizio Romano suggests club won’t want to sell their £40m player to Tottenham

Santi Gimenez has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham recently.

The Mexican striker is making waves over in the Eredivisie, and with Spurs still not signing a like-for-like Harry Kane replacement, it’s thought that the north London club could be eyeing the Feyenoord ace.

Speaking on , Fabrizio Romano has been discussing the idea of Gimenez joining Tottenham.

The journalist says that Gimenez is a player Spurs like, but there may be some problems in getting this deal done as Spurs’ relationship with Feyenoord isn’t the best at the moment after trying to pinch Arne Slot as their new manager over the summer.

Gimenez to Tottenham could be difficult

Romano shared what he knows about the £40m player

“For January a really interesting proposal is needed. I think it could be around €45m (£40m) guaranteed package to Feyenoord, I’m not sure it will be easy at the moment. He is for sure a player monitored by Tottenham because they are following the Dutch League with big interest after they wanted Arne Slot last summer. The relationship with Tottenham and Feyenoord after what happened with Arne Slot last summer has some problems, some small issues, nothing big and serious, but that is also a point to consider,” Romano said.

Difficult

It’s always difficult when you find yourself in this type of situation.

Tottenham can be prickly negotiators at the best of times, and these inter-club relationships can make deals difficult at times.

Daniel Levy knows all too well what it’s like to hold a grudge – he’s not done business with Manchester United for 15 years after the Dimitar Berbatov deal, and if Feyenoord have a sour view of Spurs right now, this deal may prove too difficult to do.

Gimenez could be on the move in January, but it sounds as though he may not end up in north London.
