‘Prize asset’: Celtic star linked with Arsenal named ‘best player in Scotland’ by pundit
Darren Jackson was a member of the Celtic squad that famously denied Rangers 10-in-a-row back in May 1998.
Nearly 23 years on, it’s Rangers who have killed their rivals’ dreams of a tenth successive title.
Jackson arrived at Celtic as part of an extensive summer rebuild in 1997 alongside the likes of Henrik Larsson, and there is expected to be a similar overhaul at the club this summer as they aim to wrestle the title back from Ibrox.
One of the major concerns for supporters as the season nears completion is Odsonne Edouard’s future.
The Frenchman has been linked with a total of 27 clubs during his time in Glasgow, including .
In a largely forgettable campaign for the club, he has contributed 20 goals in 35 matches, and if Celtic are to reclaim the Premiership trophy next time out they will count on being able to keep hold of the 23-year-old.
Jackson, who made 45 appearances for Celtic, believes the striker remains the best player in the country despite his side being 20 points off the pace.
Speaking to Record Sport, he said: “On his game there’s no doubt he’s the best player in Scotland. Not this season unfortunately but he’s still chipped in with 20 goals.
“He is still only 23 and is the prize asset. If a new manager can somehow convince him to sign another two-year deal, great.
“If not they have to cash in this summer.”
