Preview of the Knockout Round in the MLS Playoffs

After the frantic action of last weekend the ♎playoffs are now set. The Knockout round is a one off game played by the fourth and fifth placed team in both the Eastern and Western Conferences. The two winners then go on to face the top seeded side in each Conference in the two legged Conference Semi Finals.

Seattle Sounders V Colorado Rapids    30 October

In the Western Knockout game we have the fourth place Seattle side taking on the fifth place Rapids. The season series between these two sides could not have being c𓃲loser fought with each team recording a win and other ending in a draw. The first time they met was in April in Colorado and a single goal from Obafemi Martins sealed the win for the Sounders. The next time these side hooked-up was in July when the game was played at the home ground of Seattle. Drew Moor had put the Rapids in front before DeAndre Yedlin got the home side level. The final time they faced each other was earlier this month with the Rapids again having home advantage. Deshorn Brown got two, Dillon Powers, Drew Moor and Gabriel Torres also got their name on the score-sheet as Colorado ran riot in a 5-1 hammering. Eddie Johnson got the lone tall🃏y for Seattle who to compound their misery also finished with ten men after Zach Scott was dismissed for two yellow cards. Obafemi Martins, Mauro Rosales and Leo Gonzalez Who were all rested with a playoff place assured should be back in the frame for this one. The winner of this game meets the Portland Timbers.

Houston Dynamo V Montreal Impact    31 October

In the East the Dynamo moved up to fourth with their win on the final day whilst Montreal who had started their game the day before in third spot had to sweat it out after their loss, but when the wheel stopped spinning they found themselves through in the fifth spot, an outstanding effort for a team in only it’s second year of existence. The games between these two sides in their season series had always found a winner. The first time they squared off was in June in Canada. Felipe and Marco Di Vaio found the net as the hosts won 2-0. The next time thꦏeir paths-crossed was in August again North of the Border and again it was the home side that dominated. Di Vaio grabbed a couple more along with Felipe Martins, Jeb Brovsky, and Andrea Pisanu, in a 5-0 demolition. The Dynamo however won the most recent game that was played in Texas at the beginning of this month, w🌸ith Ricardo Clark netted the only tally. The winner of this game gets the task of facing the Supporters Shield winning New York Red Bulls next.
