Premier League: Team of the Week XX
Coach: Alan Curtis (Swansea City- caretaker)
Formation: 4-3-1-2
Swansea’s newly appointed boss watched on as his new club earned a precious victory away at Crystal Palace, but it was the responsibility of caretaker manager Alan Curtis to lead the team for the match at Selhurst Park, and he had a profound effect in the dugout, where Clement later joined him to show his support.
Curtis had the job of galvanising his men after the sacking of Bob Bradley, against a Crystal Palace side that were in a period where they were looking to profit from the new manager effect with the arrival of Sam Allardyce at the helm. The temporary boss did just that, and his team looked to have responded when Alfie Mawson headed them ahead from Gylfi Sigurdsson’s free-kick, before Wilfried Zaha looked to have broken their hearts on 83 minutes when he volleyed home an equaliser.
But Curtis was determined not to let his men be outdone, and he urged them forward, and just five minutes after Zaha’s equaliser, substitute Angel Rangel collected Leroy Fer’s pass to fire home a dramatic winner.
Swansea have been accused of lacking character over the 20 games they have played so far this season, but it was there in abundance in this latest rare victory, and it can only bode well for Curtis as he now resumes his backseat role to help new manager Paul Clement as he takes over the reins.
