Sunderland are facing a selection headache this weekend as on-loan midfielder Max Power returns from his three-match suspension. The 25-year-old started in every one of the five League One matches that he was available for after joining from Wigan Athletic.
During that time, he impressed the Sunderland supporters and emerged as one of the best signings made by Jack Ross during the summer.
Power scored twice from midfield and offered a lot from the centre of the park. His experience of winning the division with Wigan last season gave him the confidence to make an immediate impact.
Unfortunately, he suffered a red card against Oxford United and has had to miss three matches. It was considered a harsh sending off, but his suspension has given an opportunity to Dylan McGeouch.

A lot was expected from the former Hibernian player when he signed on a free transfer during the summer and his recent performances show why. Lee Cattermole and George Honeyman have also impressed in the midfield positions, which leaves Ross with a difficult decision to make.
It will be harsh to leave any of the four out of the starting eleven against Coventry City. However, a decision must be made, as the current formation is working well for Sunderland.
In recent seasons, Sunderland have had a difficult task picking a team for the wrong reasons. They have had few players in form and suffered back-to-back relegations. They won’t like being in League One, but it has given them an opportunity to rebuild the club.
This selection headache is a good problem to have and shows the progress that they have made under Ross in a short time. If Power doesn’t come back into the team, he will provide good competition and that can only be seen as a positive.
