Potential arrival of countryman Andersen could help keep Eriksen at Tottenham

Tottenham have identified Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen as their top target to replace Toby Alderweireld,

They that the Danish under 21 international’s form in Serie A has caught the eye of Mauricio Pochettino, who knows that Alderweireld’s days in north London are numbered, because the clause triggered to extend his contract for another year means his asking price is now £25m.

That is £10m less than Sampdoria would demand for Andersen, and the arrival of a fellow Dane could help make up Christian Eriksen’s mind to stay at Tottenham.

The Independent that Spurs have offered the playmaker a new deal – his current one expires in summer 2020 – but he is stalling on signing it.

Real Madrid are circling with interest and while Tottenham are ready to play hardball and demand a huge £225m transfer fee, Eriksen’s prolonged willingness to commit his future must be a worry.

But the arrival of a player Eriksen is likely to know so much about in terms of his talent and promise may convince him of Tottenham’s ambition to continue improving and building a new generation of success even after some of the experienced heads who have been at the centre of Pochettino’s reign so far.
