Positive injury update for Leeds United will ease pain of quiet January
Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is believed to be happy with his current squad. that any January transfer activity will be minimal, with the club more likely to try and tie players down to new deals, rather than bring in anyone new.
The same report did, however, highlight the progress of two players who will feel like new arrivals when they are back in action.
The report claims that both Patrick Bamford and Izzy Brown are well into their recoveries from respective knee injuries.
Bamford suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury in September. Brown, signed on loan from Chelsea in the summer, has been sidelined since January with an anterior cruciate ligament problem.
The report claims both men are pushing to feature for Leeds before January, something that has not previously looked likely. The report claims Brown is ‘clearing hurdles’ in his recovery whilst Bamford is ‘well into’ his rehabilitation.
It would be a massive boost to Leeds’ ranks if this does prove to be the case. Kemar Roofe and Tyler Roberts have worked wonders this season. However, there is a reason and he can add another serious goal threat to the side.
Brown’s versatility makes him the perfect Bielsa attacker. Capable out wide, in attacking midfield or even as a striker, his fitness could prove key to a fluid and rested Leeds attack in 2019.
Whilst a central defender is still something Leeds fans feel is needed, the club will now be well stocked in attacking positions. That is not something they could have said last season, with the likes of Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Caleb Ekuban and Jay-Roy Grot hanging around.
So whilst the news Leeds may not be making any new additions will have some fans alarmed, this duo’s return before January would act, effectively, as a double swoop in the striking department.
Leeds should definitely be happy with that.
