Pontus Jansson shows touch of class with Instagram message to Leeds star

Pontus Jansson has shown a touch of class on Instagram by sending a brilliant message to Leeds United defender Luke Ayling, after the right-back impressed in a central role for the Whites against Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

Ayling, 29, captained Leeds for the fourth time this season as they came up against a physical Burnley side in good form, following last Monday’s 2-1 win over Wolves. But the Whites came out on top, proving to be solid at the back.

The Whites had been criticised for being too open, following a 6-2 loss to Manchester United. On Sunday, Marcelo Bielsa started a back three of Ayling, Kalvin Phillips and Pascal Struijk and it worked perfectly, with Ayling shining on the right.

The former Bristol City and Arsenal academy product posted on Instagram following the match, underlining his delight to have helped Leeds secure a fifth clean sheet of the season – and a sixth win, though they did ride their luck at times.

Ayling was certainly one of Leeds’ best performers on Sunday. While Illan Meslier was the club’s best according to the stats, Ayling boasted the most interceptions alongside Struijk – and was second only to Phillips in clearances.

Certainly, Jansson was impressed. The Brentford captain, who left Leeds in 2019 after becoming a fan favourite at Elland Road, posted a hilarious message to Ayling but also showed a touch of class – stating Ayling is better than him at centre-back.
