Pontus Jansson sends message to Leeds, West Brom and Fulham
Pontus Jansson has shown a touch of class as the Brentford captain posted an emotional message following the Bees’ failure to gain promotion to the Premier League, while applauding Leeds, West Brom and Fulham.
Jansson, 29, left Leeds to join Brentford last summer in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £5.5million. It saw the Sweden international end a three-year stay at Elland Road, in which he had become a fan favourite.
Since then, he has captained Thomas Frank’s side to within an inch of automatic promotion – only for West Brom to finish in second place. His Brentford side reached the play-off final, but it was more heartache for Jansson.
Indeed, an extra-time defeat to Fulham saw Brentford succumb to another season in the Championship – and Jansson to miss out on Premier League football once again. He posted on Instagram, applauding Leeds.
It remains to be seen if Jansson will remain at Brentford and look to help Frank’s side gain promotion again, though the Bees are likely to lose a number of star players – including Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma.
Jansson, who still remains friendly with his former Leeds teammates and has a connection with Leeds supporters, has entered the final two years of his Brentford contract. Mateusz Klich responded with a heart.
