Pontus Jansson says he loves Leeds, and is still in contact with owner Andrea Radrizzani
that he still loves Leeds United despite captaining one of their biggest promotion rivals this season in Brentford – and claims he is still in contact with owner Andrea Radrizzani.
Jansson, 28, left Elland Road in the summer to join Brentford – despite having Premier League interest and plenty of clubs from Europe’s biggest leagues considering a move for the Sweden international.
The former Torino and Malmo star has since captained Brentford to fifth place in the Championship table, and just two points behind stuttering Leeds – with the two sides going head to head at Griffin Park on Tuesday night.
Jansson, who left Leeds to join Brentford for a fee of £5.5million (), has claimed that Leeds – where he spent three years – is still in his heart. The colossal defender also stated that he is always in contact with owner Radrizzani.
“I still have Leeds on my heart – that does not change just because I left. I will love Leeds until I die, and the same with Brentford. But I’d be lying if I said I don’t want Leeds to lose every game now, because I want us to pass them in the table.
“I still have a lot of friends in the team, I talk to the owner and some of the staff, so I want the best for them, but it is difficult when you are fighting against them for the top two spots,”
TBR’s view – Does Radrizzani contact suggest Jansson has Leeds future?
Well, Leeds certainly do need defenders. Liam Cooper has failed to be as good as he has been alongside Jansson this season, while Ben White is only on loan at the club. Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi are cover, but are naturally full-backs.
Surely, if Leeds gained promotion come May and Brentford were left in the Championship – Jansson would be open to a return to Elland Road? His contact with Radrizzani certainly suggests that he may not have finished his business at Leeds.
