Pochettino thanks Coleman for consoling Son after Gomes suffers horrendous leg injury
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has praised Seamus Coleman after Sunday’s draw with Everton.
Everton and Tottenham drew 1-1 at Goodison Park with Cenk Tosun’s stoppage-time header cancelling out Dele Alli’s opener. But the main talking point of the game surrounded Andre Gomes’ injury.
Late in the second half, Gomes suffered a horrific leg injury. Son Heung-Min’s foul launched Gomes into the onrushing Serge Aurier.
Immediately, Gomes clutched his leg and screamed out in pain. It was visibly distressing for the Everton players surrounding Gomes. And Son burst into tears in disbelief at the situation.
After the game, Pochettino described Son as “devastated”. The South Korean forward received a red card for the challenge. But he was already struggling to cope with what had just happened.

Speaking after the game at Everton, Pochettino said (): “Son is devastated. He was very confused. It was difficult to keep him calm, it was not intentional. It was so, so bad luck.
“I want to thank the captain, Seamus Coleman – he came into the dressing room to console Son.”
TBR’s view
Son was clearly in shock after the event. He was reportedly inconsolable in the dressing room. This is why Coleman’s intervention would have meant a lot.
Coleman showed his maturity and responsibility in his role as captain of Everton. Despite not playing yesterday, he is a credit to the club for recognising when certain matters transcend football.
