Once again Everton are out of the League Cup. Marco Silva made some changes to his side and it ended up costing him against Southampton at Goodison Park. A 1-1 draw saw Everton head to penalties and Theo Walcott’s miss proved decisive.
Everton boss Silva obviously felt it was time to hand several fringe players their chance to shine. However, the likes of Ademola Lookman, Maarten Stekelenburg and Kieran Dowell will not feel they did that.
The latter, in particular, had a poor evening.

Highly-rated at Everton and with England, the playmaker was given a chance to prove he should be a more used option in the first-team. However, Dowell simply could not find any rhythm to his play.
Considering his style of play, it came off as lazy and disinterested. The performance was poor and the youngster was eventually hauled off for Oumar Niasse.
Everton fans were not forgiving of the 20-year-old’s display. Many believe that, despite his reputation as a top talent, there is no long-term future for Dowell at Everton.
Considering a similar Everton player, Nikola Vlasic, was scoring the winner in a Champions League match against Real Madrid with loan club CSKA Moscow and it is clear to see what Everton fans were unhappy with…
For me Dowell was the only surprise in the starting line up, and he failed his audition badly. It’s one thing doing if for the U23’s in front of 500 but a massive step up to do in against Prem opposition, and it seems to be too big a step up for most coming thru the ranks.

Why’s no one talking about how lazy and poor Dowell was?

Probably made too many changes tonight. Some good play until final 3rd and then lack of desire cost us. Dowell too slow. Hope he gets a decent move and proves me wrong but not cut out for Premier league.

Hope that now Silva has realised that Dowell, Stek and Niasse need moving on!

Asif Dowell is playing for us and Vlasic is bagging against Real Madrid

Playing Dowell whilst Vlasic is scoring against Madrid
— ŞΔΜ (@SC__23)
Biblical fume if we get knocked out of the cup against Southampton playing fringe men like Dowell while Vlasic is out there scoring against Real Madrid.
