‘Playing like Pele’, ‘tremendous’: Some fans ecstatic as Celtic star helps Scotland qualify for Euros

Celtic ace Ryan Christie put in a great performance for Scotland on Thursday night en route to qualification for Euro 2020, with plenty of fans singing the Hoops man’s praises.

The 25-year-old, who was named in Steve Clarke’s starting XI for the crunch playoff against Serbia in Belgrade, opened the scoring for his nation.

In the 52nd minute, Christie collected a pass from Callum McGregor, carved out some space for himself on the edge of the box, and fired a low effort into the net off the keeper’s left-hand post.

As well as getting the breakthrough, the Bhoys midfielder weighed in with several more shots, contributed numerous crosses for his teammates, and covered pretty much every blade of grass.

Indeed, his 86th-minute substitution did not go down very well amongst many fans, and things took a turn for the worse as Luka Jovic equalised in the 90th minute.

It all worked out well in the end as the game went to penalties and Scotland triumphed in the shootout, former Celtic keeper David Marshall keeping out Aleksandar Mitrovic’s spot kick.
