Player now admits £63m Newcastle man has spoken to him about joining the Magpies
Newcastle could be very busy in the transfer market in 2025 once PSR restrictions loosen.
The Magpies endured a frustrating summer as the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) saw both Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh forced out of Newcastle – as only Odysseas Vlachodimos, William Osula, Lloyd Kelly and John Ruddy arrived.
There was also – of course – Newcastle’s failed attempt to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
However, Paul Mitchell – Director of Football at St James’ Park – is not the only one who has been speaking to Newcastle targets…
Anthony Elanga says Alexander Isak has spoken to him about Newcastle
Anthony Elanga now admits that his Sweden teammate Alexander Isak has spoken to him about rumours of a move to Newcastle.
In case you missed it, Newcastle actually made a £50m bid to sign Elanga from Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day, but the offer was rejected given its late nature.
Discussing what the man Isak said to him, the Nottingham Forest No.21 Fotbollskanalen: “Isak talked to me about it, but I said the same to him as I say to you. I’m focusing on Nottingham and hope to have a good season, then we’ll see what happens.
“We (Elanga and Isak) have a good relationship and good chemistry when we play together, but I have a contract with Nottingham.”

Elanga impressed for Nottingham Forest throughout the 2023/24 campaign, scoring five goals while also providing nine assists in 36 Premier League appearances.
Deal could materialise in 2025
The 22-year-old appears to leave the door open to a potential Newcastle move in 2025.
Elanga clearly says he will “see what happens” once the 2024/25 campaign is over, which suggests he is open to exploring his options once the current season ends.

Therefore, if Eddie Howe is still interested by that point, an agreement could materialise between Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, especially with agent Isak on the case whenever the pair jet off for international duty with Sweden.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation heading into 2025, as the saga may not be over just yet.
