‘Outstanding’ player Arsenal were favourites to sign in January now relieved he didn’t join Gunners
Arsenal had a pretty uneventful transfer window, failing to get a single signing over the line despite their pursuit of several targets.
For instance, Arsenal tried their luck with a £70million bid for Ollie Watkins, and Arsenal also made an approach for Evan Ferguson.
However, despite their desire to strengthen their ranks, the Gunners were unable to bring anyone in by the time the transfer window slammed shut.
Now, it has been reported that a player Arsenal were deemed favourites to sign has expressed his relief at not moving to the Gunners in the January window.

Sverre Nypan reportedly relieved he didn’t move to Arsenal in January transfer window
The player in question is Sverre Nypan, who Arsenal were keen on signing along with several other big Premier League clubs.
Manchester City were also in pursuit of Nypan, but the Norwegian gem opted to stay put at Rosenborg for the time being.
Now, according to , Nypan feels relieved to have turned Arsenal down for now as he takes more time to make a final decision over his future.
However, Nypan will continue contemplating whether to eventually make the move when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
Furthermore, Arsenal remain confident that they will eventually tempt him into joining Arteta’s charges, added the report.
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey confirmed that Arsenal were confident of signing Nypan in the latter stages of the window.
Meanwhile, Dean Jones said late on in the window that Arsenal were “definitely in the lead” for Nypan, though the City group were also in the mix.
What Nypan has said about his future
Nypan, one of Norway’s most exciting youngsters, spoke to the Rosenborg media team about the interest in him and his decision to stay put.
“It’s been a bit demanding, but I think I’ve come out of it pretty well,” he said. “I’ve learned a lot from it and I’ve gotten a taste of what it’s going to be like in the future.”
Nypan, along with his father Arne, visited several clubs in England during the transfer window before joining up with Rosenborg in their training camp in Portugal.
“I’ve been on a little trip and have seen how things are and how they are doing,” he continued. “It has helped me with the thoughts I’ve had and the thoughts going forward.”
In the end, Nypan and his camp concluded that staying put at Rosenborg was the best option for the time being.
“I have been quite close to leaving Rosenborg, but we have decided that being here for the next six months is the best thing for me now,” he said.
“And I am very happy with the choice I have made.”
Nypan has been hailed as a player with ‘outstanding’ vision and has even been compared to West Ham star Lucas Paqueta by .
