Scott Brown has shed some light on his decision to leave Celtic.
The captain will depart in the summer after 14 successful years in Glasgow, with 22 trophies in his collection and club legend status secured.
He’ll link up with new Aberdeen boss Stephen Glass in a player-coach role, having been handed a two-year deal at Pittodrie.
He’s confirmed that Celtic did offer him another year at the club, but says a lack of certainty regarding the club’s next manager played a part in his decision to leave.
With Neil Lennon having resigned in February, there will soon be a new man in the dugout, with speculation intensifying regarding former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe.
Brown, who has made 612 appearances since arriving from Hibs in 2007, will look back fondly on his years at Celtic Park, but believes the time is right to move on.
In a clip from Thursday’s press conference shared by , Brown said: “I got offered another year at Celtic.
“It was a hard situation because it would have to be sitting waiting until the end of the season to see who comes in, and for me to have that fresh start with someone that I know, I trust and I respect fully, and maybe sit in at Celtic until the end of the season not sure what to do or who’s coming in, I think that played on my mind as well.
“It’s going to be a sad time when I do leave, but it’s been fantastic as well. I’ve enjoyed every single moment of it.
“Winning trophies, winning games, playing in front of some fantastic fans as well.”
Brown still has the opportunity to bow out on a high with one more trophy.
Celtic begin their Scottish Cup campaign on Saturday when they play host to Falkirk in the third round.
