‘Played his part’: Alan Shearer hails Leeds ace’s display v Watford

Leeds United defender Diego Llorente has made it into Alan Shearer’s latest Premier League Team of the Week.

Last week, the Whites finally got their first victory of the 2021-22 league campaign after three draws and three defeats.

Leeds dominated Watford at Elland Road and could’ve easily dished out a hammering to the visitors.

Marcelo Bielsa’s charges 67 percent possession, won six corners and had a staggering 20 efforts, though only four of those were on target.

Pne tense moment saw Illan Meslier spill the ball and go into the net off Christian Kabasele, but it was ruled out due to a foul in the build-up.

In the end, Llorente’s goal in the 18th minute proved the difference between the two sides.

The Spaniard, back from a hamstring injury he picked up against Liverpool, poked home from close range after a scramble from a corner kick.

And Llorente’s efforts saw him make Shearer’s weekly XI, the only Leeds player to make the cut.

“The centre-back played his part in a clean sheet at one end and scored the winner at the other in the 1-0 victory over Watford,” the Premier League icon.

Llorente joined Leeds in the summer of 2020 from Real Sociedad for a £18million.

The 27-year-old has made 19 senior appearances for the Whites, netting twice.
