PL side reportedly make enquiry for MLS superstar Luciano Acosta, is it Newcastle?
that a ‘mid-table Premier League side’ are among the clubs to have enquired after DC United playmaker Luciano Acosta – is it Newcastle?
The 24-year-old plays alongside Wayne Rooney for DC United. He was the man who headed Rooney’s long-range assist into the back of the net, in a video that went viral of the former England captain.
It saw Argentine playmaker Acosta score his hat-trick for DC in a last minute 3-2 win over Orlando City. He is regarded as one of the best players in the MLS at the moment, wearing the number 10 shirt for DC.
Remember the name, Wayne Rooney….

Last season, he scored 11 goals and created 15 more in just 36 games. It saw Paris Saint-Germain come calling, only for the cash-rich side to decide against meeting DC’s £7.6million asking price ().
Now, a mid-table Premier League side are interested and have made an enquiry for Acosta, but face competition from two French clubs, a Saudi Arabian side and Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
It could well be Newcastle, who bought Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United for a fee of £21million in January. The Paraguay international saw off interest from a whole host of clubs to move to Tyneside.

Nicknamed ‘Miggy’, he helped Atlanta win the MLS Cup last season with 13 goals and 13 assists. He is almost a carbon copy of Acosta, in that he is South American, had similar stats last season and boasts enormous flair.
But Acosta is said to be worth a whole lot less than Almiron at just £7.6million. Newcastle are in danger of losing Ayoze Perez this summer with the Spaniard claiming he would like to return to La Liga.
It could be Newcastle, then, who have made an enquiry to sign Acosta. It remains to be seen who actually is interested in raiding Rooney’s DC, but Newcastle have to be a contender. If it is not them, they should be.
