Premier League gems reacts on Instagram as Arsenal make Monday announcement

Arsenal have confirmed that Mark McGuinness has signed for Cardiff City on a permanent deal. The defender was tipped for big things by some supporters at the Emirates Stadium. But, he’s now been allowed to leave – and Leeds star Sam Greenwood has reacted to the news.

The 20-year-old centre-back spent last season on loan with League One outfit Ipswich Town. He was a regular in the team and made 25 appearances in all competitions.

Very few would have predicted a permanent departure. With Arsenal wanting a new centre-back, another loan spell wouldn’t have seemed completely out of the question.

Earlier today though, McGuiness confirmed on his Instagram account that he has penned permanent terms with the Championship outfit.

Who has said what about McGuinness leaving Arsenal?

The challenge for McGuinness is to head to Cardiff and force his way into their team. Seasoned second tier players Aden Flint and Sean Morrison are in place and that task won’t be easy.

He does look set for a bright future though. Indeed, some of his former teammates have raved about his move, clearly backing his ability to shine.

McGuinness has played several times for the club’s under-23 ranks with Ben Cottrell. He was first to lead the congratulations with a touching message.

Greenwood was next up. He was a surprise departure from Arsenal last summer. The striker was allowed to join Leeds United, much to the dismay of the Gunners fan base.

Clearly he’s stayed in touch with McGuinness too. He also sent him a heartfelt post on Instagram after his move to the Championship.

The proof will now be in the pudding for McGuinness. The ball is firmly in his court and Arsenal might continue monitoring his progress too.

Plenty of supporters feel the club has been short-sighted with this deal. Only time will tell whether that’s to prove the case or not.
