Physio Paulo Barreira confirms Arsenal exit, Lucas Torreira responds

Physio Paulo Barreira has confirmed on Twitter that he has left Arsenal after three years at the club, following his move to the Gunners in the summer of 2017 – and Lucas Torreira has responded to his heartfelt post.

Barreira, 42, joined the club as one of a number of additions to the staff following the appointment of Darren Burgess as head of high performance. Initially joining towards the end of Arsene Wenger’s reign, Barrera now departs.

Football London have stated that Barreira’s exit is nothing to do with the club’s plummeting losses due to the current global health crisis, which is seeing the north London club lose a whopping £25million per month while football is not being played.

They state that Barreira’s contract was due to expire at the end of the season and that the club have simply decided not to renew such a deal. Barreira posted on Twitter after it was confirmed he would be leaving, sending a heartfelt message to fans.

Barreira worked with Burgess at Liverpool before his move to Arsenal, while also working in the United Arab Emirates with Al Jazira and Al Ahli. Several scouts are expected to leave this summer, but it could be on just a permanent basis.

Responding to Barreira’s post on Twitter, fans flocked to wish their former physio all the best for the future – as did Arsenal midfielder Torreira who has worked with Barreira closely after fracturing his ankle. Ex-Liverpool man Lucas Leiva also Tweeted.

Torreira’s Tweet is translated as: “Thank you very much for all friend. I wish you the best for the future.”
