Photo: Conte calls up ‘excellent’ 20-year-old to Spurs training pre-Brighton, he’s got a ‘nasty side’

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has been putting his players through their paces ahead of their midweek Premier League fixture.

Spurs have been painfully inconsistent over the past few weeks, alternating between superb wins and frustrating defeats.

Tottenham head to the south coast on Wednesday night to face Brighton, who also lost their last fixture.

Spurs fell to a 3-2 defeat at Manchester United on Saturday evening, while the Seagulls lost to Liverpool earlier on that day.

On Monday, Tottenham shared photos of the players in traning at Hotspur Way.

Among them was Harvey White, one of the most talented youngsters coming through the Spurs academy.

White is a central midfielder who can also play at left-back and centre-back.

The 20-year-old has been in and around the Tottenham first team this season, and has impressed for the Under-23s.

White has 21 age-level appearances under his belt this term, as well as seven goals and seven assists.

He has made two senior appearances for Spurs, in the Europa League and FA Cup under Jose Mourinho last season.

White also spent time on loan at Portsmouth last season, making 22 appearances for the League One club.

“I’ve been pleased with what he’s done and been very impressed by him,” former Pompey boss Kenny Jackett told in February 2021.

“I’m sure he will keep pushing hard and when he gets his chance, because he’s getting substitute appearances at the minute.

“He will take some shifting because I do feel he is a quality player.”

“I was really impressed”

Joe Gallen, Jackett’s assistant, also sung White’s praises, after his debut for the south coast club in January last year.

“He looks young but I don’t think he is going to play young,” quoted Gallen as saying.

“And that is the sort of way of looking at it because yesterday, there was a bit of a bite to him and a nasty side.

“And tonight, you could see he was putting in a strong tackle and a strong challenge.

“If he’s got that and it looks like he has and he’s definitely got the technical side.

“A good left foot receiving the ball, his passing is excellent, and a set-piece specialist. That nasty side and his technical ability then bodes well for the future.

“I was really impressed with him coming on for 20 minutes. You could just see that he is going to hopefully help us achieve what we want to achieve.”
