Photo: Conte calls up 19-year-old forward to Spurs training pre-Nice, he’s so ‘slick on the ball’

Tottenham Hotspur have been fine-tuning their preparations ahead of their return to domestic action.

The mid-season World Cup meant Spurs could take stock and plan for the remainder of the campaign.

Tottenham have a decent springboard from which to kick on and enjoy success this term.

At the same time, Spurs haven’t been at their best and have dropped a fair few points.

Antonio Conte’s charges have one more friendly to contest – against Nice on Wednesday – before returning to Premier League action.

In addition, there are still several Tottenham players unavailable due to current or recent World Cup commitments.

With that in mind, the latest Spurs training photos feature a few academy talents making up the numbers.

One of those is Yago Santiago, who has featured in quite a few first-team sessions in recent months.

‘Can at times make things look effortless’

Santiago joined Tottenham from Celta Vigo in 2019.

The 19-year-old has shown plenty of signs of promise at development squad level.

He has even been described , due to his level of ability.

Santiago has made 20 appearances this season, registering four goals and one assist.

In July 2021, wrote a detailed feature article on Santiago.

“A midfield player with great balance, in the central areas of the pitch Yago is so slick on the ball and he is a midfield technician who is more than capable of making things happen and creating chances,’ they wrote.

“A good passer of the ball and a player who is quick on his feet, Santiago is an intelligent player who can at times make things look effortless.

“As a CAM Santiago makes good forward runs off the ball and he also links the play well from that role.

“He likes to pass the ball forward (he holds onto the ball well) and he is a forward thinking midfield player who is a skilful and tricky player, but he is also a hard worker who helps out the team well.”
