Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has called up young Charlie Sayers to first-team training ahead of the North London derby against Arsenal tomorrow.
The derby is always a huge fixture for the two sides, but it’s more important than ever this time as a lot is riding on the result.
A win for Arsenal would seal Champions League qualification for them, thus ending Tottenham’s dreams of returning to Europe’s most prestigious competition next season.
However, if Spurs manage to get the win, it’s game on with just two games left in the season to be played.
Charlie Sayers spotted in Tottenham first-team training
When Tottenham signed Sayers from Southend United back in December this year, many believed he was a fantastic acquisition by the North Londoners.
The teenager impressed on trial and was quickly snapped by Spurs. Just a few months later, he signed his first professional deal with Tottenham, and now, despite never playing for the senior side before, he’s rubbing shoulders with the likes of Son Heing-min and Harry Kane.
Ahead of the massive derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow, Conte seems to have called up the talented 18-year-old, who is a central defender by trade but can also fill in at left-back if required.
Sayers isn’t the only one getting an opportunity in Tottenham’s first-team training sessions, fellow youngsters Marcel Lavinier and Matthew Craig have also been spotted at Hotspur Way recently.
Spurs likely to go with the same team vs Arsenal
Nobody really expected Tottenham to come away with anything against Liverpool last weekend, but they surprised everyone.
The Reds certainly dominated the game at Anfield, but looking back, Spurs fans will argue that they deserved to come away with all three points. This just shows how much they have improved under Conte over the last few months.
The North London Derby tomorrow will be another difficult test for Spurs. We expect the Tottenham boss to name the exact same starting eleven that impressed against Liverpool a few days ago.
Predicted Spurs XI vs Arsenal: Lloris, Romero, Dier, Davies, Emerson, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Sessegnon, Kulusevski, Kane Son.
