Philippe Coutinho has admitted that he will miss Emerson Royal after he left Barcelona to join Tottenham Hotspur last night.

Emerson signs

Emerson was a deadline day signing for Spurs, as Nuno’s side moved to solve their right-back issue.

Emerson was Tottenham’s second most expensive signing of the transfer window, behind Cristian Romero – which shows the level of faith that the North London club have in him.

And Coutinho’s message to his fellow Brazilian on social media, suggests that the playmaker thinks his move away is a loss to Barcelona.

He wrote a message in Portuguese, which translated as: “Brother, God bless you. You are a star and will be missed.”

Important signing

Emerson is likely to play a prominent role at Tottenham now he has signed.

Japhet Tanganga currently holds that right-back berth at Spurs, and he is unlikely to replaced immediately – given that Nuno’s side haven’t even conceded a goal yet.

However, there are still some doubts over Tanganga’s output in an attacking sense.

Emerson should have the edge on him there, as the former Barca man is blessed with great pace and ability in the final third.

Emerson’s arrival at Spurs caused Serge Aurier to leave the club, with Tottenham terminating the Ivorian defender’s contract yesterday evening.
