Phil Thompson lauds Everton midfielder Andre Gomes after comeback
Phil Thompson that he is a big fan of Everton midfielder Andre Gomes after the Portuguese made his return to the Toffees side.
Gomes came off the bench during Everton’s defeat to Arsenal last week after more than three months out. The 26-year-old, of course, suffered that horrific injury in November’s game against Tottenham.

It is obviously fantastic for Carlo Ancelotti’s side to have Gomes back. But you certainly do not need to be an Everton fan to be delighted to see the former Barcelona man looking healthy and back on the pitch.
And following his return to action, Thompson suggested that he is a big admirer of the Everton star, and seemed to hint that he is perhaps a player who Arsenal should be looking at.

“This guy’s a silky footballer. He’s never going to be one of those tacklers. But my goodness, he’s a good player,” .
“Before his injury, you could look to build that midfield around him. We’re talking about what Arsenal want, this boy can pass it. He can pass it between the lines, he sees it quickly. And he has a presence, always wants the ball.”
What is incredibly exciting is that Gomes is returning to an Everton side who are definitely moving in the right direction. They could end Sunday just six points off the top four in the Premier League.
And Gomes’s cameo at the Emirates hinted that he is ready to rediscover his previous form. He showed few signs of rustiness and, almost remarkably, he seemed to show no fear despite the injury he sustained.
Certainly, no-one would begrudge Gomes a fantastic run of form to end the campaign. His first display back suggests that that fantastic run is not going to be beyond him.
